![]() It is my understanding that I cannot manually move a file into the /usr folder. Right now, the printer will not speak with my laptop, and I have a warning message saying "File '/usr/lib/cups/filter/epson-escpr-wrap.' cannot be found. One can make use of all functionality which the PostScript printers have under Windows/MacOS when one uses the PPD file coming with the printer, downloaded from here on OpenPrinting, from the manufacturer's home page, or from Adobe's web site (do ' unzip -L filename.EXE ' to get the PPD files). I even browsed through the folders to find a ppd file to upload to the CUPS web interface. The printer used here is an Epson TM-T20, which is very common in point-of-sale environments. The aim of this is to be able to point a driver such as escpos-php at the device. I tried a couple of different things here, including cd into the downloaded folder, then makpkg so the BUILDPKG gets built. In this post, I’ll step through how to get a thermal receipt printer with USB interface appearing on Linux. However, the driver choice left me with 9- or 24-pin series. I easily set up the printer and got it talking to my laptop. Without this package you may see an error like: client-error-document-format-not-supported. Note: As drivers are deprecated in CUPS in favor of IPP Everywhere you may need to install cups-pdf to get printing to work. I started by using the CUPS web interface. Arch Linux packages the OpenPrinting CUPS fork, not the Apple CUPS fork. Since you require a mono printer, I would suggest that you also consider a laser printer and compare the running costs. Some of the comments are disturbing, to say the least. ![]() I tracked down the official drivers, although there were no Arch Linux drivers. In addition, do check the customer feedback on various printers. Thus far, I have installed CUPS and ghostscript. I'm running a build of Arch Linux with almost no GUI, so everything I do is by the terminal or through the web.
